One of our senior most drivers, Sonam (back-row, with guests) is a teddy bear, and an able major domo who comes highly recommended for almost any situation. This is probably because of his multiple other incarnations before he came to us—he’s a former monk, a veteran of the Royal Bhutan Army, and a most excellent traditional cook! He knows people at all levels of society in nearly every valley in the country, and is a favorite with many past guests, language “barriers” be damned! His steady captainship of the buses, SUVs and the mid-size Toyota Hiace vans we use to transfer our guest along Bhutan’s steep and challenging roads, makes him an indispensable companion on every journey.
