CITY HOTEL, THIMPHU
The City Hotel: A centrally located hotel in the commercial heart of Thimphu
According to its owners, Thimphu's City Hotel was "built to meet the standards of an upscale western hotel without compromising the traditional character of Bhutanese hospitality and architecture."
Reserve judgment until you enter the hotel’s huge foyer! For a Bhutanese-owned property, this is an ambitious project located next to the weekend Centenary Farmer's Market.
Whether it is a quick foray into Thimphu's downtown to find interesting Buddhist art, a walk along the city’s public riverside pathway, or a stop by the local VAST art gallery there's a way to get there on foot from this centrally located hotel. Its multi-cuisine restaurant on the second floor has an excellent chef with views looking out over the crowded cityscape to the mountains beyond. The restaurant accommodates large groups and is a favored venue for government-hosted dinners.
The hotel has spacious rooms with a modern flair. The lounge & bar adjacent the restaurant attracts young professionals out on the town on weekends.

Thank you for supporting a locally-owned business!
At Bhutan Himalaya Expeditions we offer a carefully curated selection of Bhutanese-owned lodges around which we build most of our trips. We believe our business supports the hopes and dreams of our homegrown Bhutanese entrepreneurs and entities whose success is vital to the strength and resilience of Bhutan's economy. Such businesses are often family-owned and operated so your journey makes a big difference in supporting the livelihoods of Bhutanese people, including the workers, farmers and producers who supply the lodges and provide the lodge's guest services.
