GANGTEY LODGE

Gangtey Lodge: an award-winning property in Bhutan's panoramic 'Valley of the Cranes.'

The multi-award winning Gangtey Lodge in the central highlands of Bhutan offers discerning travelers a blend of luxury, nature, and cultural experiences.

Built to reflect the enduring architecture of traditional Bhutanese homes with their time-darkened timber and wood facades, the 12-suite lodge is discreetly positioned near a cluster of traditional farmhouses. It blends into its surroundings overlooking Gangtey valley, with sweeping views toward 17th century Gangtey monastery and the valley
floor where endangered Black-necked Cranes come to roost in the winter.

FARMHOUSE SUITES
Each of the 12 suites boasts a private 46-square-meter space in two large traditional farmhouses on either side of the main lodge. Each suite is outfitted with warm textiles in earthy tones in authentic Bhutanese style. Cozy fireplaces invite guests to warm up next to expansive valley views or soak in a deep bath placed strategically by the windows.

EXPERIENCES
Private paths and ancient trails next to the lodge provide access to the outdoors, and a mountain bike ride through the pine forested trails may be arranged in advance with guest services. Unwind with an evening meditation class, as an add-on experience, or finish the day with a traditional Bhutanese Hot Stone Bath ("Dotsho”)—which uses mineral laden river rocks to heat the water. Learn about Bhutan's gastronomic traditions at an in-house Bhutanese cooking class; plant your very own tree nearby assisted by lodge staff; or enjoy a picnic lunch on a nearby ridge with spectacular views.

🏰 $$$$: Luxury accommodations from $800++ per person per night (2024)
One of Bhutan's small handful of impeccable luxury properties built in collaboration with international luxury brands, this lodge offers hospitality with distinction. Priced to impact your pocketbook, such lodges nonetheless deliver superlative experiences combining traditional Bhutanese elements with understated international sophistication.
