OLATHANG

The historic cottages at
Paro Olathang, Grande dame of
Bhutanese lodges

The Olathang Hotel & Cottages hosted heads of state in the early 1970s for His Majesty the Fourth King's coronation celebrations. Since then it has hosted many of our journeys and expeditions around Paro. While it certainly can't be described as "luxury" by today's standards, it still exudes a warm, lived graciousness that befits the grande dame of Bhutanese lodges.

The property has more than 50 rooms spread across in their cottages and main buildings set amid swaying pine forests on a high knoll overlooking the rice-fields of agriculturally-rich Paro.

The main wing is built like a small four-cornered Bhutanese dzong around a wide flagstone courtyard, with a small outdoor café. Attached facilities provide traditional hot stone baths, massage, steam and sauna as well as a yoga room.

Thank you for supporting a locally-owned business!

At Bhutan Himalaya Expeditions we offer a carefully curated selection of Bhutanese-owned lodges around which we build most of our trips. We believe our business supports the hopes and dreams of our homegrown Bhutanese entrepreneurs and entities whose success is vital to the strength and resilience of Bhutan's economy. Such businesses are often family-owned and operated so your journey makes a big difference in supporting the livelihoods of Bhutanese people, including the workers, farmers and producers who supply the lodges and provide the lodge's guest services.
