LUXURY HOTEL
THE THIMPHU LE MERIDIEN
Marriott's palatial hotel in the heart of Bhutan's capital
Thimphu’s Le Méridien is a Marriott‑branded 5-star hotel located in the city center, within walking distance of shops, markets, and the Clock Tower Square.
From the hotel’s entrance, guests can see Thimphu’s main streets and the surrounding hills, with Buddha Dordenma visible in the distance. Inside, the lobby uses marble, Bhutanese motifs, and textiles in a contemporary layout. The property has 78 rooms and suites and is one of the largest hotels in the country by room count.
The guestrooms are large for Thimphu and include rain showers, bathtubs, and king or twin beds with the standard high thread count linen. Most rooms have floor‑to‑ceiling windows facing either the city or the nearby hills. Facilities typically include dual vanities in higher categories, Wi‑Fi, and in‑room coffee and tea, with Bhutanese decorative elements and artwork.
The hotel’s restaurant serves buffet and à la carte meals with both international dishes and Bhutanese options such as ema datshi. The seasonal Asian‑focused menus with local influences are popular with the capital elite. The hotel’s stylish café and bar is open throughout the day, serving drip coffee, baked goods, and a choice of contemporary drinks and cocktails.
The hotel’s wellness floor includes an indoor heated pool, a spa, and a 24‑hour fitness center. Steam and sauna facilities are available, and the spa menu combines standard international treatments with some Bhutan‑inspired options. These facilities primarily serve guests returning from city walks and day excursions around Thimphu. Paired with the Le Meridien in Paro, guests who later move to more traditional lodges in other valleys sometimes use Le Méridien as their first or last stop in Bhutan.
🏰 $$$: Luxury accommodations starting from $850++ per person per night (2025/2026)
One of Bhutan's small handful of luxury hotels built in partnership with international chain Marriott. The hotel offers hospitality with distinction. Priced to impact your pocketbook, such properties nonetheless deliver the internationally familiar standards of service and amenities, combined with traditional Bhutanese elements.
