ZINGKHA HERITAGE LODGE
Haa's Zingkha Heritage Lodge: A place that scores high on traditional charm
This old governor's home refurbished as a local lodge is among the quirky gems that survive from another age. The modern amenities, though nothing to write home about, are serviceable. Where this charming lodge truly scores well: its location in the center of a village (Haa-toe) that time seems to have forgotten; it's authentic rammed earth construction and polished wooden floors (even if they creak a bit); the owner's cheery sociability and willingness to share his insights into local life and the interesting history of his inheritance; and, finally, the lodge's nearby 'hot stone' baths, in a traditional bathhouse beside a rushing glacial stream! In our humble opinion, this is a place worth experiencing at least once.
