VIEW DAY BY DAY
MAY 01: KATHMANDU ARRIVAL & AIRPORT TRANSFER

Your guide from our Nepalese partners will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel . Depending on your flight timing, there may be time this afternoon to visit Kathmandu’s Durbar Square. Tonight, enjoy gracious Nepalese hospitality at the new wing of the hotel, designed to evoke a well-appointed mansion from Nepal's historic Rana period.

MAY 02: EXPLORE KATHMANDU'S ANCIENT HEART
You have a full day exploring Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Patan's Durbar Square. Your guide will share explanations of the history and significance of the various sights and monuments and art you’ll encounter during the day. At Boudhanath, tomb of the Kasyapa Buddha, you’ll have time to explore the local markets and join Tibetan, Nepalese and Indian pilgrims in the sacred rounds of the temple. This afternoon you’ll visit the ancient royal palace of Patan, which faces on to magnificent Durbar Square. This concentrated mass of temples is perhaps the most visually stunning display of Newari architecture to be seen in Nepal. Temple construction in the square was mostly completed during the Malla period (14th to 18th centuries), and particularly during the reign of King Siddhinarsingh Malla (1619–1660).
Meals: pay as you go to allow freedom for you to explore the local cuisine at your own comfort level
Accommodations: The Nepali Ghar or comparable

MAY 03: DRIVE TO SUMMIT RIVER LODGE ( 100KM/4 HRS)
Drive from the city, descending along the scenic NH04 Prithvi highway through the middle Himalayan range, to the Trisuli River bank beside the small town of Kurintar, a journey of approximately 4 hours. Leave your vehicle at this point and cross the river on a pedestrian bridge to the village Thuguwatar-on-Trisuli. The village homes are strung out along the edges of a flat, fertile expanse of farmland, forested hills clothing their northern slopes. Walk through the village for another 30 minutes to reach your lush river lodge, set on an isolated spur of the hills that slopes down steeply towards the Trisuli. Enjoy wonderful views of the natural forest across to the flowing waters of the river, the terraced fields, and the surrounding mountains. If you’re interested in getting there by raft, you’ll want to stop in Majhimtar village, for a 3-hour float on the river, to be dropped off at the banks of the river just below the lodge. If you're tired from the 4 hour drive, this is an option better saved for another day.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: The Summit River Lodge

MAY 04: CABLE CAR TO MANAKAMANA TEMPLE
Take a morning drive to the Cable Car Terminus from where we ride the cable car high above tangerine and lime groves to the mountain-top shrine of Manakamana, the ‘Wish-Fulfilling Goddess’ of primeval times. The temple itself is old though the town that has grown around it is very new, a consequence of the cable car installation. The shrine is attended by Magar tribal (shamanic) priests and instead of the traditional Brahmins who are the usual custodians of most Hindu temples in Nepal. On certain days of the week, pilgrims sacrifice goats to appease the Goddess or less bloodily, release pigeons in her honour, seeking her blessings for their heart’s deepest desires! A trail descends to the Valley below, worn through the ages by the feet of innumerable pilgrims who walked these trails centuries before the cable car. If fitness allows, a hike back to the base is recommended, from where your driver and dedicated vehicle will take you back to the lodge.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: The Summit River Lodge

MAY 05: VILLAGE WALK, OR OPTIONAL EXCURSION OR OVERNIGHT TO CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
Wake to the sounds of bird calls and nature stirring in the surrounding hills. Your guided trail walk today takes you to the homes of the Chepang and Magar tribal communities, which remain relatively untouched by the modernity that roads bring. Expect calming views of cataracts cascading down hills into narrow gorges, villagers attend to fodder collection for their cattle, chattering children traipsing off to school, uniformed and loaded with books, while butterflies of a myriad colors flit along the trail. You may come across a village woman at her still, making an alcoholic brew from fermented cereals in the old way, in which case stop to take a taste or to learn the ways. Orchids hang from trees along shady paths and deep forests as we follow a narrow valley with a gushing stream. The path up the stream goes to numerous pools and waterfalls deep enough to take a dip in, and we may stop to cool off. For the young, and the young at heart, there’s even a natural rockslide down which invites visitors to slide down it into the pool. Intrepid adventurers may wish to climb further up the narrow valley along the stream to end at a large cascade falling into yet another, mor impressive pool. Walk back via a lower route through terraced fields and beside Trisuli’s white sandy beaches to end your day back at the lodge.
Alternately, start early in the morning for the approximately two-hour drive to Chitwan National Park for a wildlife safari overnight. or return to your lovely riverside retreat at the end of the excursion (you must choose when booking is finalized).
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: The Summit River Lodge (Kurintar) or Barahi Jungle Lodge or comparable (Chitwan National Park)

MAY 06: VISIT THE OLD NEWARI TOWN OF BANDIPUR OR SAFARI DAY AT CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
Take an hour’s drive to picturesque Bandipur, nestled in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal, a place as famous for its natural beauty as for the hospitality of its people. Situated on a hilltop above the highway town of Dumre, Bandipur captivates with its cultural appeal and pristine scenery. This Newari town has preserved its historic flavour, and offers visitors a rich mix of history, architecture, breathtaking views, interesting caves and unspoiled landscapes.
Bandipur has been described as a natural ‘view tower’; indeed, one can enjoy a spectacular panorama of the entire Annapurna Range plus the peaks of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Langtang from here. Apart from the stunning views of the Himalaya and the Marsyangdi Valley, a visit to the town is an opportunity to get a close look at Newar cultural life, with varied attractions ranging from the artistic to the scenic.
Alternatively, if you choose the Chitwan National Park overnight, leave the lodge for an early morning boat ride on the Rapti River. Look for crocodiles resting along the river banks or gliding slowly in the water. Keep an eye out for the interesting birdlife. Tigers have been spotted in the park so keep an eye out even though an actual sighting is extremely rare.
In the afternoon, learn about the rich flora and fauna of the park on a walking safari, before ending back at the lodge for dinner and drinks to close out your southern adventure before heading back for the final overnight stay in Kathmandu.

NOTES ON INDIAN VISAS
IF TRAVELING VIA INDIA
An Indian visa will be required before arrival, EVEN if you're only transiting through the Delhi airport. You can apply for an e-Visa before traveling via a simple online form. This is the Indian government e-visa issuer, although there are private ones also this is most reliable.
Link: Online Indian E-Visa
You’ll want to choose the Tourist e-Visa for 30 days, not the other kinds. The 30-day visa allows two entries into India, which is handy since they consider each transit a single trip. All e-Visas take at least 72 hours to process, so be sure to do it well ahead of time!

YOU CAN FLY BACK TO A DIFFERENT CITY
You can fly into Bhutan from one port of call, and fly back out to a different city. There are fare differences if you do that.

SPECIAL NOTES & DISCLAIMERS
ITINERARY
Please note that all trip and itinerary descriptions are accurate at the time of publication. While we strive to keep the actual running of the trips as close to our original description as possible we cannot rule out changes or modifications and, or, variations on the ground as a result of factors that may be beyond our control. If such circumstances occur, we always strive to do better, or at minimum match the trip described but this may not always be possible.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Infrequently, we may also have to swap out the lodges and accommodations listed on your trip as a result of seasonal overbooking; in such instances we will always find a comparable hotel of the same category and amenities as replacement/s.
AIRFARE COSTS
Please note that while we make every endeavor to accurately price our trips, airfares subject to change by the airline are outside our control. As a result, current charter flight costs currently included the trip trip may change and we may be forced to generate a final additional invoice to make up any such potential differences in cost. While we don't expect this to happen in this case, a reduced number of travelers may result in a per-individual fare increase for which we will send out an addendum invoice if the occasion arises, within reason, to cover any such potential shortfalls. Guests will be notified of any such changes well before trip departure.
